Someone Had To Do It.
At first, Idle didn’t start as Idle. The original idea was a mobile mechanic business with the same core thought behind it: instead of you calling the mechanic, the mechanic calls you. The more I talked to people about their cars, the more I realized the bigger problem wasn’t just convenience. It was that most people aren’t taught how to take care of a car. They don’t know what’s routine, what’s urgent, or what they should be paying for. They find out when something expensive breaks.
I’m Harley. I’ve spent almost my entire professional career in the mechanical and electrical trades, and this was my way of channeling that into a business. I’ve wanted to help people, and this was my way to start doing it. Not only that, I’ve watched enough people in Los Angeles run into avoidable car problems to know there’s a gap that needs filling.
Right now, Idle is simple. I track your car, I handle the maintenance, I show up when your car needs something. In five years, my hope is that Idle becomes a predictive maintenance platform powerful enough to tell you with real accuracy what your specific car is likely to need and when. A database built from real service data, designed to make car ownership something you never have to think about again.
For now, it’s just me, a phone, and a commitment to answering it. Built in Los Angeles. Run by a guy who genuinely wants this to work.
Early Access to What’s Next
We’re building a small device that plugs into your car and sends us real-time data so we can catch problems before they happen. It’s coming later this year. Current Idle members get first access. Drop your info and we’ll keep you in the loop.
